Jonathan was glad the transport provided them a 360-degree view. As they trundled along the boulevard, he scanned the street, unable to shake the feeling they were being watched.

Fidgeting in his seat, he stretched out his legs, then pulled them in again. On the other end of the seat, Nadira was turned away from him, lost in her thoughts.

The car sidled up to the curb in front of Matt's building and the doors slid back.

"This is it," Jon said, as he stepped onto the marbled sidewalk.

Nadira glanced up at the tower. "Stay close."

"That will be easy."

A holo greeted them as they entered the building lobby. It was the same one who had appeared before, but this time she wore a purple and gold dress, the same color as her shoulder-length hair.

"I'm Mira, may I assist you?" she asked.

"We're here to see Matt Bento," Jon replied. "I'm Jonathan Keel, and this is my associate."

Nodding, Mira motioned towards the lifts. "He is expecting you."

The glass-enclosed lift started its ascent as soon as the doors closed. When they stopped on Matt's floor, it was deserted.

They walked down the corridor together, their footsteps barely making a sound against the cushioned floor. As they approached the apartment, the door swung open to admit them.

Matt stood at the opening. "Come in."

Inside, Jonathan looked around. It was quiet, but a feeling of uneasiness gripped him.

"Tell me what happened to my father," Jon said, not wasting time on a greeting.

"Who is this?" Matt asked, motioning to Nadira.

"She stopped the men who attacked me at the Emerald Club."

"Is she a security officer?"

The sound of heels clicking against the stone floor interrupted Jon before he could reply.

Ilana entered the room, aiming a stunner in his direction. She wore a dark blue jacket and pants. Her outfit was so severely fitted and sedate, it could've been a Novacorp-issued suit.

"Jonathan, I've missed you." She flicked her long, dark blue hair off her shoulders.

"Ilana!" Jon moved towards her, but froze when she pointed the weapon at his head.

"Are you insane? You can't discharge a weapon in here!" Matt yelled.

"You're responsible for bringing him here with a Guardian, you idiot. Don't give me orders."

"A Guardian? Shit--I can't believe this," Matt muttered, as he rubbed his hands over his face.

Next to him, Jonathan felt Nadira tense. If she could make a move before Ilana could use her weapon…

"Don't do anything you will regret," Ilana snarled, turning her attention to Nadira.

"Leave her alone!" Jon ordered.

"Always rescuing someone, aren't you? Did Matt tell you that your father planned the entire robbery and made us help him?"

"Liar!" Jon lunged forward. But before he could reach her, he heard a piercing scream.

Nadira fell to the floor, her head just missing the edge of a thick, glass table.

Racing towards her, he buckled as blasts of energy overwhelmed him. Each hit was like being zapped by bolts of electricity. Pounding him up and down his body, sending him to his knees as he searched for a way to shield himself. The room spun around him as he choked back bile.
